A comparative expression analysis of gene transcripts in brain tissue of non-transgenic and GH-transgenic zebrafish (Danio rerio) using a DDRT-PCR approach Anais da ABC (AABC)
Alves-Costa,Fernanda A.; Figueiredo,Márcio A.; Lanes,Carlos F.C.; Almeida,Daniela V.; Marins,Luis F.; Wasko,Adriane P..
The presence of higher level of exogenous growth hormone (GH) in transgenic animals could lead to several physiological alterations. A GH transgenic zebrafish (Danio rerio) line was compared to nontransgenic (NT) samples of the species through a DDRT-PCR approach, with the goal of identifying candidate differentially expressed transcripts in brain tissues that could be involved in GH overexpression. Densitometric analyses of two selected amplification products, p300 and ADCY2, pointed to a significant lower gene expression in the transgenic zebrafish (104.02 ± 57.71; 224.10 ± 91.73) when compared to NT samples (249.75 ± 30.08; 342.95 ± 65.19). The present data indicate that p300 and ADCY2 are involved in a regulation system for GH when high circulating...

Interaction between growth differentiation factor 9, insulin-like growth factor I and growth hormone on the in vitro development and survival of goat preantral follicles BJMBR
Martins,F.S.; Celestino,J.J.H.; Saraiva,M.V.A.; Chaves,R.N.; Rossetto,R.; Silva,C.M.G.; Lima-Verde,I.B.; Lopes,C.A.P.; Campello,C.C.; Figueiredo,J.R..
The objective of this study was to determine the effects of GDF-9, IGF-I, and GH alone or combined on preantral follicle survival, activation and development after 1 and 7 days of in vitro culture. Either fresh (non-cultured) or cultured ovarian tissue was processed for histological and fluorescence analysis. For all media tested, the percent of normal follicles was greater when compared to minimum essential medium supplemented (MEM+) alone, except when ovarian tissue was cultured with GDF-9/IGF-I or GDF-9/GH (P < 0.05). Fluorescence analysis showed that the percent of viable follicles after 7 days of culture was similar for non-cultured tissue and for all treatments tested. The percent of primordial follicles was reduced (P < 0.05) and there was a...

Metabolic and hormone profiles of Holstein x Gyr cows during pre- and postpartum PAB
Franzoni,Ana Paula Saldanha; Gloria,Joana Ribeiro da; Costa,Anna Luiza Belli de Souza Alves; Martins,Ronaldo Alves; Amaral,Thiago Fernandes; Azevedo,Rafael Alves de; Campos,Ernane Ferreira; Coelho,Sandra Gesteira.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to describe the effect of genetic composition on body condition score (BCS), on total lactation production, and on metabolic and hormone profiles of Holstein x Gyr cows under the same pre- and postpartum management conditions. The genetic groups ½ (n=8), – (n=10), and ≥⅞ (n=10) Holstein x Gyr (HG) were evaluated within the same farm, and all of them showed typical lactation curves. The time required to reach peak production did not differ between groups. The groups also did not differ as to time to reach the lowest BCS after calving or to recover BCS after calving, nor as to their BCS values in the week of first ovulation, number of weeks required for first ovulation, and service period. However, ½ HG cows had...

Qualidade do corpo lúteo e do embrião de ovelhas Santa Inês superovuladas com FSH associado à rbST Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Rocha do Nascimento,I.M.; Sousa Júnior,A.; Castelo Branco,M.A.; Carvalho,Y.N.T.; Mota,L.H.C.M.; Ferreira,S.B.; Souza,I.O.T; Moraes Júnior,F.J.; Leal,T.M.; Souza,J.A.T..

Single-nucleotide polymorphism analysis of GH, GHR, and IGF-1 genes in minipigs BJMBR
Tian,Y.G.; Yue,M.; Gu,Y.; Gu,W.W.; Wang,Y.J..
Tibetan (TB) and Bama (BM) miniature pigs are two popular pig breeds that are used as experimental animals in China due to their small body size. Here, we analyzed single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in gene fragments that are closely related to growth traits [growth hormone (GH), growth hormone receptor (GHR), and insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1)] in these pig breeds and a large white (LW) control pig breed. On the basis of the analysis of 100 BMs, 108 TBs, and 50 LWs, the polymorphic distribution levels of GH, GHR, and IGF-1 were significantly different among these three pig breeds. According to correlation analyses between SNPs and five growth traits - body weight (BW), body length (BL), withers height (WH), chest circumference (CC), and abdomen...
